Political Consulting/Fundraising
Field: Political Fundraising and Strategic Outreach
Start Date: Immediate
Hours: Up to 5 days/week, M-F, occasional weekend and evening events; flexible to
accommodate school schedules.
Hourly Wage: $15/hr minimum wage
Description: Rice Consulting is a political consulting firm offering fundraising services and general
strategic advice to Democratic candidates across Maryland.
Responsibilities:
Interns at Rice Consulting will assist with the following activities and tasks:

Research and Donor Outreach:

Prospecting involves researching potential donors, including individuals, PACs, and organizations, who may be interested in supporting campaigns or candidates.

Event Planning and Coordination:
-
Organizing fundraising events by attending planning meetings, answering inquiries by email and phone, and sending complimentary invitations.

Researching and re-directing returned invitations.
-
Updating event trackers.
-
Conducting event outreach: making calls and sending emails to boost attendance and donations.

Staffing events and assisting with registration and run-of-show
-

Data Entry and Database Management:
-
Updating and maintaining the donor database, ensuring all contact information and donation history are accurate and current.

Tracking donations and reconciling them for compliance purposes.

Communications Support:
-
Drafting fundraising emails, social media posts, and other communications to encourage donations.

Developing outreach materials, for example, RSVP forms.

Compliance Support:
-
Reconciling event and contribution trackers.
-
Assembling and sending thank you letters.
-
Creating and depositing check batches.
-

Creative Support:
-
Creating and updating invitations.
-
Preparing and producing sponsor recognition materials
-

General Administrative Support:
-
Day-to-day administrative duties, including answering phones, creating call sheets, running errands, and preparing materials for campaign events or meetings.

This internship provides interns with a comprehensive introduction to how political campaigns raise funds, engage with donors, and navigate the laws surrounding political donations. Interns will gain hands-on experience in communications, event planning, and political strategy. Additionally, the internship offers an in-depth overview of political consulting. Staff at Rice Consulting, with experience dating back to 1992, will provide training on the goals, principles, laws, and practices of fundraising consulting, as well as its role within the broader political landscape and the path to becoming a fundraising consultant.
Qualifications: Political Science, Government, or Law-related majors preferred but not required.
An interest in politics with a desire to learn about political fundraising and strategy.
Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills.
Clear written and oral communication skills.
Keen attention to detail and ability to focus on tasks.
